Guwahati, Cherrapunji and Shillong Tour Itinerary

Welcome to 'Glimpse of Assam with Meghalaya - Summer' tour, On arrival at the airport /railway station in Guwahati, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Shillong. Shillong became the first capital of the State of Meghalaya. Located in undulating pine covered hills, the city has a milder climate than tropical India. The city centre is 1496m above sea level and currently has a population of around 270,000. Home to several waterfalls, it is also known as theScotland of the East. The rest of the day is at leisure for independent activities.
Overnight in Shillong.
After breakfast, drive to Cherrapunjee (4,400 ft.) the wettest place in the world. On arrival, check-in to the hotel. In afternoon, proceed for a sightseeing tour of Cherrapunjee, where you will see the beautiful waterfall known as Nohkalikai. At Nohkalikai Falls, you can enjoy the sight of water falling from 1,100 feet through the green forest. Trek through some of the amazing terrain and watch a great variety of birds. You can also explore the caves known as Mawsmai. On the way back, visit the Elephanta falls for some breathtaking views. The Elephant water fall situated 12 kms from Shillong provides beautiful sights which attracts tourists of all kinds. The water fall is divided into three steps, therefore the Khasi tribe named it as Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew, meaning Three Steps Water Falls.
The rest of the evening is at leisure for independent activities.
Overnight in Cherrapunjee.
After breakfast, proceed for a visit to Mawlynnong - the wettest place on earth. Mawlynnong is a small village located at 90 kms from Shillong near the Bangladesh border. The village is known for its cleanliness and received international recognition as cleanest village in Asia in 2003 and cleanest village in India in 2005. The total 95 households form this village have 100 percent literacy. Mawlynnong looks more beautiful during the monsoons, with lush greenery and waterfalls making it a true delight of nature. The live root bridge is one of the interesting sights which you can spot in Mawlynnong. Later, drive towards shillong. On arrival, check-in to the hotel.

After breakfast, proceed to Guwahati. Guwahati is the capital city of Assam and is commonly referred to as the Gateway of Northeastern India. Guwahati lies between the banks of the Brahmaputra River and the foothills of the Shillong plateau. It is situated on the north eastern side of Assam, between the eastern hill flanks of the Himalayan ranges. On arrival at Guwahati, check-in to your hotel. Later in the afternoon, visit Kamakhya Temple and Umananda Temple.
Kamakhya temple is a famous pilgrimage situated at Guwahati, Assam.The Kamakhya temple is dedicated to the tantric goddesses. Apart from the deity Kamakhya Devi, the compound of the temple houses 10 other avatars of Kali namely Dhumavati, Matangi, Bagola, Tara, Kamala, Bhairavi, Chinnamasta, Bhuvaneshwari and Tripuara Sundari. The Umananda temple, located on Peacock Island is one of the important temples of Guwahati. Situated in the middle of River Brahmaputra, this temple is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. During the festival of Shivratri, every year, a large number of devotees visit this temple.
